T205 Zach Wheat Tobacco Reprint Baseball Card

Zach Wheat, Brooklyn's promising outfielder, came from the Mobile team of the Southern Association, and made good right from the start. In 1909 he played a few games in Brooklyn after the close of the Southern season, and made 31 hits in 26 games for a totalof 44 bases. In 1910 he was one of the two players in the National League who were in every game of their clubs, and his work was good both in the field and at bat.

For eighteen years, Zack Wheat was a fixture in left field at the famous Ebbets Field in Brooklyn. In his first year with the Dodgers in 1909, this hard-hitting outfielder batted .304. This would be the first of 14 seasons with a batting average over.300.He won the NL batting title with a batting average of .335 in 1918. Wheat compiled all these awards during the now infamous "dead-ball" era. He also holds the Dodgers all-time club record for most games (2,322), most at-bats (8,859) and most hits (2,884). This long-time Dodger is now a Hall of Famer, invited to the land of the legendary in 1959.
