1997 All-Star Game
The 1997 All-Star Game of Major League Baseball was the 68th playing of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the
American League and National League. The game was played on July 11th, 1997 at Jacobs Field in Cleveland, Ohio, home of the
American Leagues Cleveland Indians. The game was won by the American League 3-1.
Playing in front of the hometown crowd, Sandy Alomar Jr. led the American League to a 3-1 victory by hitting a two-run homer in
the seventh inning. The AL victory ended a three-game losing streak.
Coming in his only at-bat, the two-out line drive came against San Francisco's Shawn Estes and earned Alomar the MVP award.
Alomar earned the distinction of being the first player to win the MVP award in his home ballpark.
