1966 All-Star Game
The 1966 All-Star Game was the 37th midseason exhibition between the all-stars of the American
League and the National League. The game was played on July 12, 1966 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, home
of the St. Louis Cardinals of the National League. The game resulted in a 2-1 victory for the NL.
The heat was on at brand new Busch Stadium in St. Louis - and not just for the players. The mercury topped
out at a blistering 105 degrees. The game was a pitching clinic as both squads barely managed to squeak a
run each across the plate as the game went through nine innings.
In the bottom of the tenth, with Baltimore's Pete Richert on the hill, Maury Wills of the Dodgers singled
to bring home Cards catcher Tim McCarver with the winning run. The LA shortstop's timely hit not only gave
the NL it's fourth straight victory, but also probably saved some lives as fans were passing out in the
seats due to the incessant heat.
