1959 All-Star Game 1
The first 1959 All-Star Game 1 of Major League Baseball was the 26th playing of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the
American League and National League. The game was held on July 7, 1959, at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania the
home of the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. The game resulted in the National League defeating the American
League 5-4. Major League Baseball decided to have a second All-Star Game(In a effort to boost Players pension fund) That was scheduled for later in the season in Los Angeles, California.
This trend would continue until 1962, in 1963 only one All-Star Game would be played.
The National League took a 3-1 lead into the eighth, only to have the American League score three runs. However the National
League came back to win it against Whitey Ford in the eighth. First, Ken Boyer singled and moved up on a sacrifice. Then,
Hank Aaron tied it with a single, scoring Boyer. Finally, Willie Mays stepped up who was 3-for-3 against Ford in three
other All-Star Games. He made it four-for-four with a triple that scored Aaron. Don Elston came in for the National League
in the ninth and retired the side.
