1949 All-Star Game
The 1949 All-Star Game of Major League Baseball was the 16th playing of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the
American League and National League. The game was held on July 12, 1949, at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn, New York the
home of the Brooklyn Dodgers of the National League. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National
League 11-7.
In a high-scoring affair that saw 42 players, 25 hits, 18 runs and six errors-five committed by the National League-the
American League prevailed in a slugfest, for its 12th victory in 16 games.
Jackie Robinson, who became the first
African-American to start an All-Star Game, opened at second base for the National League, and also cracked a double.
The DiMaggio brothers, Joe and Dom, combined for four RBI and the Yankee's Vic Raschi hurled three shutout innings.
