1939 All-Star Game
The 1939 All-Star Game was the 7th of the mid-summer classic between the all-stars of the American League and
National League. The game was held on July 11, 1939 at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, New York City, the home of
the New York Yankees of the American League. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 3-1.
The All-Star Game came to the House that
Ruth Built for 1939 and honorary captain
Lou Gehrig watched the AL win a
tightly contested 3-1 game behind a
Joe DiMaggio homer and stellar pitching. Twenty-year-old
Bob Feller, the Tribe's
rookie fireballer, pitched out of a bases-loaded jam and hurled 3 1/3 innings of one-hit ball to close out the AL's win.
The Manager for the National League was
Bill Terry and the American League was
Joe-McCarthy.
