1938 All-Star Game
The 1938 All-Star Game was the 6th playing of the mid-summer classic between the all-stars of the American
League and National League. The game was held on July 6, 1938 at Crosley Field in Cincinnati, Ohio, the home
of the Cincinnati Reds of the National League. The game resulted in the National League defeating the American
League 4-1.
Rookie Johnny Vander Meer, coming off his back-to-back no-hitters only a month before, threw three scoreless
innings to pace the National League to its second All-Star Game victory. He was complemented by Bill Lee and
Mace Brown, as the trio scattered seven hits. The four errors the American League made didn't help either.
This was also the last All-Star Game appearance for the great New York Yankee first
baseman
Lou Gehrig.
The Managers for this game were
Joe McCarthy
(AL),
Bill Terry (NL).
